7 Years of Operation Iraqi Freedom
Tomorrow is the 7th anniversary of the U.S. military's invasion of Iraq. During the past 7 years, approximately one million people have died, and many more have been refugees. The world was told that the war was necessary because Sadam Hussein was hiding weapons of mass destruction. He wasn't. We were told that the oil in Iraq would pay for the war. It didn't. War profiteering companies such as Halliburton, KBR, and Blackwater (now Xe) have made hundreds of billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars. Anyone who has ever studied religion and history knew that Iraq was made up of Shiites, Sunnis, and Kurds, and they have a long history of hating each other. I quit driving my car to work in November of 2004 to protest the war, thinking that this symbolic action might help to point out that oil was the major factor in the decision to go to war. It didn't really work in retrospect. That car flooded one year later. I, like many people, had hope that Obama would end this unjust war. Sadly, it looks like we'll be waging war against "insurgents" in Iraq for a long time to come. Still I find myself apologizing for the actions of my government.

Your assumption for the basis of your blog is that the United States went to war with Iraq under false pretenses. How do you know that for sure? Just because we have not found any weapons of mass destruction does not mean Iraq did not have them. It simply means they could of given them to another country or hidden them. You are assuming that our government made the wrong decision in going to war with Iraq because you think the real reason we went to war was over oil. How much research have you done in this area. Regardless of the reasons for going to war with Iraq we are there and you may be anti war but you should still support our troops for protecting your daily freedoms and liberties. And for fighting over there so the war does not have to be fought here in the United States. When we were attacked by terrorists on 9/11 Bush and his administration found a reason to fight back. the United States is not going to be attacked and then just sit back and do nothing waiting for another attack. That is not how it works. We are at War in the middle East for several reasons not just because Bush declared that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. We are there fighting the terrorists and insurgents who want Americans dead. We are fighting to keep you and other Americans safe and free.
Even if Iraq had a nuclear arsenal I don't think we should have invaded. In fact if they did have one, we surely wouldn't have. It would take an awful lot for me to send young men and women into a country for regime change. And sure it was about oil, and proving to dad that he was a real serious man. He kept Sadam's golden revolver in his house after all. America's best hope is to quit killing innocent people and to mind our own business. Send troops to Darfur 10 years ago on an international mission to stop genocide? That's something I can support.
You did not rebut a single thing I said so I guess that means you agree with me on some level. You are saying that we are killing innocent people. We are fighting and killing the insurgents and terrorists that are fighting and killing our soldiers in the middle east. We are fighting and killing the insurgents and terrorists that attacked us on 9/11 and killed thousands of Innocent Americans. Yes one of the reasons we went to war was to overthrow Saddam and help Iraq become a democratic nation. Do you not know how cruel of a dictator Saddam Huesain was, Do you not know that he killed his own people to stay in power, do you not know that he used unethical and immoral leadership styles to rule. So you say you support stopping genocide you should also support a war that overthrew a man who was guilty of that crime and several others. America is not killing innocent people we are fighting a war with people who want to kill us. Okay why did you bring up sadam's golden revolver and Bush Senior they have nothing to do with what we were talking about.
I don't see S. Hussein as being any worse than our great allies Mubarak in Egypt or Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. Yes, innocent people are dying. Don't you read about various schools and medical centers? What about the press being bombed? There's even friendly fire. And the innocent: often they're sadly called collateral damage. As a scholar of the Middle East and having traveled and lived in the area extensively, you are going to teach me that Hussein killed people? Great. He was our best friend when he was fighting the Iranians. If I were running America and wanted to ensure that my war profiteering buddies at Blackwater and Haliburton were safe, I would want more patriots like ScreamingEagle18. Comment all you want Mr Eagle, I don't think me responding here will benefit this discourse.
Let me add that I am very grateful to the sacrifices U.S. men and women in the armed forces have made in all of these conflicts. I am not upset with them, I am upset with my government for putting them in these positions, and for the people in the countries that we invaded.
Thanks for attacking me on a personal level that means you have no grounds for what you are saying it is simply all your opinion. If you are a scholar like you say you are you shall look at both sides of every argument and read more about current events and make sure your history is accurate.
