What You Want, Baby I Had 40 Years Ago: Jazzfest Ages

The lineup for the 40th Jazzfest has just been announced. Aretha Franklin seems to be the biggest name on the bill. I remember how great she was, about 40 years ago. Here's a visual aid to show what time and fast food have done to her.
Aretha40Years
I also noticed acts like the O' Jays and Earth Wind and Fire. It will be like a freakin' 1970 polyester wax museum, so hope for clouds. In fact, is there anyone under 40 performing at Jazzfest? And if this is a trend, in 10 years will all the performers be over 50? Wasn't this the generation that said "Don't trust anyone over 30"? But before you think that I am advocating youth at any cost, I am pleased to report that the Imagination Movers are off the list. Rumor has it that their orange jumpsuit idea backfired when they got mistaken for prison workers last year. Even though Disney Channel isn't popular in prison, turns out the "Movers" are.

Punk rock, jazz, R and B. Face it, you like music for old people. It's OK, I'm old. I'm sort of relieved that I don't really get young people's music. For years and years I kept getting older, and I kept waiting for something new and incomprehensible to come along. You know, "What's with these darn kids today anyway?" I'm finally completely in the dark about modern music. I have no idea what the current popular artists sound like. If I happen to hear them somewhere, they sound pretty lame. I'm happy with my fond memories of Aretha. And by the way, she was brilliant, but she was always a troubled woman. No surprise that time has not been good to her.

Dissing the Queen of Soul now, malaka? Does your venality ever bottom out. There are some good people too: Los Lobos and Robert Cray are both fabulous.

Besides, who the hell said you were still cool? Get over it, malaka.

I am with you. Where are the Imagination Movers? They were awesome last year. I guess they "sold out" by getting popular for the younger set. But Kermit the Frog and I will be there anyway - I know there's gotta be something I can listen to, and the food still rocks. At least there's not just hot dogs and funnel cakes.
