The Jena 6
Many of my students were not in class today, as they were marching in protest to what has happened to six African American students in Jena Louisiana. Three full buses left Xavier in the middle of the night to drive to Jena. Their protest is getting much deserved publicity, it's even being covered by the BBC. I'm proud of my students who made the effort to go to the protest, and I hope some good comes out of it.

You need to borrow my black shirt for your bike ride home?
It is good when people make peaceable but significant show of force to protest something, much like people did here against crime earlier this year.
I agree with some of the protestors who said that the Jena 6 shouldn't 'walk' for they committed a serious crime, but the issue that started it all was the disparity in how things were handled.
The glossing over of the nooses showed tremendous insensitivity.
