I just got this photograph from Schroeder:
It's Gilgamesh, early in the morning on a rainy day, sitting in front of the Cabildo. He and Therese are there as part of a protest against Eddie Jordan, the DA for New Orleans who has done by all accounts a pretty horrible job prosecuting murderers. My representative on the city council, Shelley Midura, has written an open letter for Jordan to resign. Today many concerned residents of New Orleans are gathering in the French Quarter at the Cabildo to protest against Jordan's incompetance. I'm so proud Therese and Gilgamesh are there, and I wish I was too. Let them know, Gilgamesh, that the current situation is totally unacceptable.
Teresa told me a story about your young man that I repeated on the Garland Show. He was great today at the crack of dawn.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the story?
ReplyDeleteFox News (local) showed Therese at the protest in many repetitions of the film loop.
ReplyDeleteIn 1991, when my son Alex was three years old, I took him with me to several of the protests against David Duke's run for governor. Now Alex is 19, but he still has clear memories of holding his sign, stomping his foot and chanting, "Stop Duke." Being part of that was a formative experience for my son and it's a memory he feels good about. I have no doubt that Gil will look back on his experiences with the same appreciation.
Teresa told me he had asked if he needed a shield to protect himself. That was a day or so before the event. So she brought him to show him what you do...
